Statement – European Leagues 50th General Assembly

  • Appointment of Claudius SCHÄFER (SUI-SFL) as President of the European Leagues

  • LALIGA rejoins the European Leagues as a Member

 

The European Leagues gathered this week in Frankfurt, Germany, for their 50th General Assembly, marking the 20th anniversary of the Association.

Hosted by the DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga, the event brought together representatives from all 40 member leagues, alongside executives from major football stakeholders, at a pivotal moment for the governance and evolution of the football industry.

During the meeting, members formally approved the readmission of the Spanish LALIGA as an ordinary member of the European Leagues.

This General Assembly marked the beginning of the new four-year cycle (2025-2029). In this context the member leagues elected today a new President, Vice-President and Board of Directors for the Association.

Following his election, Claudius Schäfer stated, “It’s a privilege for me to serve as President of the European Leagues. We have several challenges ahead of us, but I’m sure that with unity and intense cooperation, we will keep safeguarding and further developing domestically football in this fast-changing environment, while contributing to improve the governance of the game in the interests of all stakeholders in football.”
