As part of the ongoing efforts by leagues across Europe to drive positive change on and off the pitch, we are pleased to share our monthly roundup of inspiring initiatives that highlight how domestic leagues are contributing to a more responsible, inclusive, and sustainable football ecosystem.

[Swiss Football League] – Swiss Football League launches carpooling platform to promote sustainable fan mobility 

The Swiss Football League (SFL) has unveiled a new carpooling platform for fans of the Break Super League and diece Challenge League, making it easier for supporters to travel together to home and away matches. The initiative aims to reduce travel costs, cut emissions, ease traffic congestion on matchdays, and encourage more sustainability journeys. [Read the news]

[Ligue de Football Professionnel] – 1TEAM is the new social and environmental responsibility initiative by the French Professional Football League 

1TEAM is the new RSE initiative launched by the French Professional Football League (LFP) alongside Ligue 1 McDonald’s and Ligue 2 BKT clubs, marking a step forward in structuring professional football’s social and environmental responsibility strategy. The programme seeks to harness the influence of football to create a positive societal impact through four key pillars: promoting an inclusive sport accessible to all, fostering solidarity and social cohesion, encouraging health and well-being, and advancing environmental sustainability. [DFL Deutsche Fussball Liga] – DFL Foundation study shows major social impact of “Bundesliga bewegt” programme 

The DFL Foundation has released earlier this month a Social Return on Investment (SROI) analysis of its “Bundesliga begwet” initiative, run together with 21 clubs from the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga. The programme tackles the urgent issue of physical inactivity in Germany, encouraging more than 22,000 children each year to engage in regular exercise, improving health, resilience, learning ability and social participation. [Lega Serie A] – Serie A joins Legambiente for “Clean Up the World”

On the 3rd matchday of Serie A Enilive, the league partnered with Legambiente to support “Clean Up the World”, Italy’s largest environmental volunteering campaign. From 19 to 21 September 2025, the 33rd edition mobilised citizens, schools, institutions and companies to remove waste from green areas, beaches, riverbanks and public spaces. The initiative highlights Serie A’s commitment to environmental responsibility, collective action and raising awareness for a cleaner and more sustainable future. [Read the news]

 

[Pro League] – 15th Football Kick-Off sets a new record in Belgium

On 7 September, the fifteenth edition of the Football Kick-Off, Belgium’s largest disability football tournament, took place in Lier and marked a record-breaking event. Nearly 1,000 participants, 90 teams, over 75 volunteers and a rich programme made the day a true celebration of football, friendship and inclusion. [Read the news]

 

[Liga Portugal] – “Keep Your Heart Alive”: Liga Portugal raises awareness on cardiovascular health

Liga Portugal, in partnership with the Portuguese Society of Cardiology, has launched a national campaign to prevent cardiovascular diseases, the leading cause of death in Portugal. Under the motto “Mantém o teu coraçâo aceso” (“Keep your heart alive”), the initiative encourages healthier lifestyles through balanced nutrition, regular physical activity and risk control. Launched around the World Heart Day, the campaign will run throughout the season with messages in stadiums, media backdrops and a dedicated awareness video. [Read the news]

[Premier League] – Premier League clubs lead the way on environmental sustainability

Premier League clubs are taking significant steps to protect the planet, from installing solar panels to promoting biodiversity. Launched in 2024/25, the Premier League’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy and the Environmental Sustainability Commitment provide clubs with expert support to develop robust sustainability policies, set minimum action standards and engage fans and communities in driving positive environmental change. [Eredivisie CV] – New Training Program on Social Value Creation Kicks Off in Dutch Professional Football

The six-month “Leadership in Sport: Social Value in Professional Football” course, offered by Utrecht University in collaboration with Eredivisie CV and Coöperatie Eerste Divisie, supports club managers and program coordinators in enhancing social impact and developing their professional skills.  [Scottish PFL] – SPFL trust launches Innovation Fund to boost Fan Engagement

The £50,000 pilot initiative gives SPFL clubs and associated trusts the opportunity to apply for grants of up to £5,000 to develop creative and innovative projects that enhance matchday experiences, promote positive supporter behaviour, and engage young fans aged 16–24 . [Read the news]

 

[English Football League] – Final five Clubs receive EFL Green Club recognition

The latest round of EFL Green Club assessments saw five more Clubs celebrated for their environmental commitment. Charlton Athletic, Huddersfield Town, and Wycombe Wanderers earned Silver awards, while Grimsby Town secured Bronze and Swansea City joined as the newest participant. Delivered in partnership with GreenCode, the League-wide scheme supports Clubs in improving sustainability practices, from fan engagement and carbon literacy training to EV chargers, reusable cups, and B Corp ambitions. European Leagues celebrate 10 years of the European Week of Sport

The European Leagues Association joined the 2025 European Week of Sport, a Europe-wide initiative encouraging daily physical activity for better health, stronger communities, and overall well-being. Launched by the European Commission, the campaign and #BeActive promote sport as a tool for inclusion, connection, and resilience across Europe. [Read the news]
