Jacco Swart steps down as Managing Director of the European Leagues

The European Leagues today announced that its Managing Director, Jacco Swart, will leave his position on 6 March 2025, at the European Leagues’ General Assembly in Frankfurt.

Jacco will depart to explore new opportunities after serving as Managing Director of the European Leagues for nearly six years, since June 2019. During that time, Jacco has overseen a period of huge expansion of the role and significance of the Association for both members and in the international landscape.

Following Jacco’s departure, the European Leagues will be seeking to appoint a new Managing Director / General Secretary to drive forward the organisation in what will be a crucial period in its history. Pedro Proenca, President of the European Leagues said: “Jacco will leave us with the thanks and appreciation of all 39 member leagues. We look forward to giving him a proper send-off in Frankfurt on 6 March and wish him the very best for his future.

Jacco Swart said, “I have been passionate and active in representing the interests of professional domestic football competitions at international level as both a Board member and later as Managing Director of the European Leagues for more than 10 years. I thank the members of the Association for their cooperation and their trust during this entire period. It has been an honour and a real pleasure to have worked with and for all the leagues, in the interest of strong and exciting national competitions.
