MEDIA RELEASE – 13.03.2020
The European Leagues held an emergency meeting of its Board of Directors today.
It is unanimously stated that health is the most important priority and always comes first!
All domestic leagues are currently taking measures such as postponing their respective competitions or playing behind closed doors, always according to and following the directives and restrictions established by the health authorities and governmental institutions in each individual country.
The leagues follow the responsibility to implement all possible measures to contribute to reducing the spread of the Covid-19 virus. And of course, to protect everyone involved in the game such as players, officials, fans, employees, partners, media personnel, among others.
The European Leagues welcome the meeting of 17 March 2020 organised by UEFA where the various football stakeholders will participate to have a coordinated approach during these difficult circumstances. Cooperation, coordination and flexibility are going to be essential. For the European Leagues it is most essential that domestic competitions can be completed this season, to limit the negative impact for the entire football ecosystem.
This crisis is also causing very serious sporting and financial consequences to all parties involved in the game. We are ready to cooperate with UEFA and other stakeholders to find common solutions to all these issues in a constructive way, including the international club competitions and EURO2020.
