Following the launch of our new Member Services structure last Thursday, which included our first meeting on Governance matters, we held an online session yesterday with over 50 representatives from our Member Leagues to discuss “Competition & Football Operations“.
With the new UEFA Club Competitions League Phase starting in one week and the introduction of the new International Match Calendar by FIFA, calendar matters were not surprisingly at the top of our Agenda. Given the increase in international fixtures for professional clubs and its impact of an already saturated calendar on domestic competition organisers, our member leagues gathered yesterday to discuss and exchange views on managing their challenging schedule from the current season. Participants from several leagues actively engaged in discussions about the effort to fit domestic competitions into an increasingly congested calendar.
Another major topic on the agenda was the official launch of the first ‘European Leagues Players Platform‘. Developed by the European Leagues Administration in collaboration with Hypercube and with contributions from several member leagues, this new tool provides in-depth insights into player appearances and playing time across European leagues. It offers extensive metrics and analytics from 38 member leagues, encompassing a total of 56 divisions and over 850 professional clubs. Originally designed to track the performance of youth players (under-19/21/23), the platform also provides valuable data for all age categories. It enables benchmarking across different football markets in Europe and facilitates strategic discussions on player workload with National Associations, clubs, and other stakeholders, while enhancing internal processes.
Additionally, the European Leagues Members received an update regarding the new UEFA Club Competitions Revenue Distribution system and the final allocation of solidarity payments for non-participating clubs as of this first season of the new 2024-27 UCC cycle. We also briefed members on recent positive developments from our Stadia, Safety & Security Task Force which was meeting earlier this week in Geneva ahead of UEFA annual Conference on Safety and Security.
The new Member Services structure also includes Business and Communication workstreams, with the respective member gatherings to be held soon.
