11 June 2026 – A delegation of league representatives, led by European Leagues President Claudius Schäfer, travelled to Brussels on 10 June to meet with  the EU Commissioner responsible for Sport and Members of the European Parliament to exchange views on critical matters relating to domestic football in Europe.

The delegation met with Glenn Micallef, the EU Sports Commissioner for an engaged discussion on the future of domestic competitions ahead of the adoption of a European Commission Communication on the European Sport Model.

A separate meeting was held at the European Parliament with Bogdan Zdrojewski, Vice-Chair of the Parliament’s Culture Committee and author of the 2025 Report on the role of EU policies in shaping the European Sport Model and Hannes Heide, a member of the Culture Committee with a long-standing interest and focus in EU sports policy.

Discussions centred on several key issues, including addressing the ongoing and escalating threat of digital piracy through effective legislative action, enhancing governance frameworks and decision-making processes through more inclusive stakeholder engagement and ensuring the preservation of competitive balance within domestic leagues.

European Leagues welcomes the constructive dialogue with EU institutions and looks forward to continuing its engagement with policymakers on matters that support the long-term sustainability, competitiveness and development of European football.
