European Leagues held its annual Strategic Business Development meeting on 16 & 17 February in Vienna (Austria) hosted by our colleagues from the Austrian Bundesliga.
The overarching and reoccurring theme over these two days was to discuss a number of key commercial topics and consider laying foundational next steps where the European Leagues can play a key role.
The Generali Arena Stadium, home of the FK Austria Wien, was the venue for the start of the meeting with sessions centred on Data (collection, management & commercialisation of sports data) and Licensing (focused on Digital opportunities). On Friday, the third session focused on international Media opportunities including the exploratory European Leagues‘ media rights deal with OneFootball and ELEVEN.
The overall objective of this annual meeting is to engage with our member leagues while supporting their Business Development strategy, taking into account each league’s specific needs, circumtances, challenges and future commercial plans.
Christian Ebenbauer, CEO of the Austrian Bundesliga, stated: “We have been very delighted to host the European Leagues Strategic Business Development Meeting in Vienna. Those meetings are not only a nice occasion to meet our colleagues from many other leagues face-to-face again but also a welcome opportunity to take a look at how our various leagues focus on future developments. Especially during times like these in the aftermath of COVID and with an ever-changing football-political landscape, it is necessary for our leagues to share experiences in the various fields and articulate our common interests.”
A special thanks once again to our co-hosts, the Austrian Bundesliga for a perfectly organised event and to the almost 60 participants for contributing to a great two days.
