European football mourns Tom Bender

 

Former Director of the DFL and President of the Bundesliga Foundation Tom Bender has passed away at the age of 52.

A distinguished sport and media manager Tom Bender spent more than a decade working in various executive roles within the DFL, its Digital enterprise and  the Bundesliga Foundation.

During his time at the DFL, Tom played a prominent role in the European Leagues Association as Chairman of the former EPFL Committee on Social Responsibility. During this period the EPFL was very active in the social area and among various initiatives Tom leaded  the successful European wide campaign “Professional Football against Hunger” run by the EPFL in collaboration with the United Nations’ FAO.

Since 2015 the native from Dusseldorf was CEO of Rheinische Post, leading the entire advertising and digital marketing as well as the daily newspaper commercial activities for this German media platform.

Appreciated by everyone for his humanity and friendliness, Tom will be remembered by the European Leagues as a natural optimistic and positive person with an incredible charisma. The whole European Leagues expresses its heartfelt condolences to Tom’s family and friends.
