ILO conference in Geneva promotes social dialogue at the centre of the international governance of women’s football

The European Leagues attended today the International Conference on Labour Conditions in Women’s Sport, hosted by the International Labour Organization (ILO) on occasion of UEFA Women’s EURO 2025.

Bringing together a broad range of stakeholders, from governments and employers’ and workers’ organisations to players’ unions, leagues, and federations, the conference provided a space to discuss the evolving landscape of women’s professional sport. Core topics included gender equality, labour rights, social dialogue, safe working environments, and the responsibilities of organisers in major competitions. It was also a moment to reflect on recent progress and set shared priorities, with the growth of women’s leagues across Europe central to the debate, alongside the urgent need for clear standards to address violence and harassment in sport.

The event took place in Geneva one week ahead of the launch of the Women’s European Leagues, a dedicated platform for women’s league football aimed at enhancing stakeholder engagement in Women’s football at European level while helping member leagues to improve professional standards of their domestic competitions.

Today’s event at the ILO headquarters was the opportunity to share the support of the European Leagues for the Global Labour Agreement, signed by the World Leagues Association and FIFPRO under the auspices of the ILO, which promotes social dialogue practices at global level and the improvement of working conditions for professional players, clubs and leagues in Europe and at world level.
