Oporto, 19 November – The EPFL has announced today a stellar line-up for its upcoming International Forum on Professional Football Social Responsibility.
At a very participated press conference held at the premises of Liga Portugal, in Porto, EPFL CEO Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros and Liga Portugal President Mário Figueiredo unveiled a constellation of keynote speakers, which includes José Lu’s Astiazarán (President of the Spanish League and Fundación La Liga); Tom Bender (Chariman of the EPFL CSR Committee and President of the Bundesliga Foundation); Paul Thorogood (CEO of English The Football Foundations); and Edu Jansing (Director of the Dutch More than Football Foundation). These speakers will be joined by pre-eminent football legends like Pauleta, several time considered best player in the French Professional League and all-time top scorer of the Portuguese National Team, as well as Steffi Jones, former captain of Germany’s Women National Team, President of the FIFA Women World Cup 2011 and current Board Member of the German Bundesliga Foundation.
The EPFL Forum of Professional Football Social Responsibility, a unique event on this kind, will also bring together top level representatives of the English Premier League (Simon Morgan); the Italian League (Paolo Bedin, CEO Lega Serie B) as well as from Portuguese Clubs’Foundations, such as the Benfica Foundation (Carlos Móia, CEO), Sporting Foundation (Aureliano Neves, President) and Marítimo Centenario Foundation (Sancho Freitas, Director).
The role of Professional Football in the field of the fight against hunger and poverty will be addressed in a special panel which will count with the participation of Isabel Jonet, President of the Portuguese and European Federation of Food Banks against Hunger, and Marcela Villareal, Director of the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO), social partner of the EPFL since April 2008.
Held of the first time ever in Portugal, this event is aimed at mobilizing the power and influence of professional football to tackle deep-rooted social and humanitarian problems, while sharing best practices and raising awareness about the vital role that “The Beautiful Game” plays in our society.
The EPFL Social Responsibility Forum shall take place on the 27th of November 2012, at the Pestana Palace, Lisbon, from 9:30hs to 16:30hs. The kick-off shall be given by the President of the hosting League, Mário Figueiredo, the EPFL CEO Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros and the Portuguese Secretary of State for Solidarity and Social Security Mário António Costa.
