“Great Football Makes Great Things”! Under this motto, the EPFL and the European Leagues are ready to reaffirm their leading role in the Social Responsibility field.
Regarded as a prime event in the world of football social responsibility, the second edition of the EPFL Forum on Professional Football Social Responsibility, which will be held on the 27th of November 2012 in Lisbon, has attracted some of the biggest names in the industry, including seniors representatives of Liga Portugal, who hosts the event, German Bundesliga, Spanish League, English Premier League and the Italian League, as well as other preeminent organisations, such as The Football Foundation (English Premier League and The FA) and More than Football Foundation (Dutch Eredivisie and KNVB).
The event will count with the presence of several club foundations and football stars who have created their own foundations, including the Benfica Foundation, AC Milan Foundation, Sporting Foundation, Maritï¿½mo Foundation, Pauleta Foundation and others.
In addition, the EPFL will present the most recent developments related to its worldwide known Professional Football Against Hunger Campaign, in a special session which will count with the participation of the Director of Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and the President of the Banco Alimentar contra a Fome and of the European Federation of Food Banks Against Hunger.
Explaining why the EPFL is so committed in this field, the EPFL Chief Executive Officer Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros stated: “The European Leagues are so much more than sporting leaders. Social responsibility is at the heart of the EPFL and our member Leagues. More than ever, football acknowledges its responsibilities towards a society which is confronted with an unprecedented economic and social difficulties. As the EPFL Social Responsibility Forum will show, we are committed to mobilise all our power and influence to raise awareness and help to tackle the most pressing humanitarian and social challenges of our time”
On behalf of the hosting League, President Mário Figueiredo added that”At a time when people are suffering the effects of the crisis, which is felt throughout Europe, football must be solidary“
Tom Bender, Chairman of the EPFL CSR Committee and President of the Bundesliga Foundation, stressed: “All the leagues in Europe, their clubs and their protagonists have exemplified for decades their successful dedication to the social sector, be that with public foundations or campaigns, or quietly and unnoticed away from the spotlight and cameras. We are proud to organise a Forum aimed to share best practices and raise awareness about the fundamental role football plays in the society”.
The EPFL Social Responsibility Forum shall take place on the 27th of November 2012, at the Pestana Palace, Lisbon, from 9:30hs to 16:30hs.
An event presentation Press Conference shall be held next Monday, the 19th of November 2012, at the Headquarters of Liga Portugal, in Porto, starting at 14:30hs.
