EPFL organizes pioneering Conference on

Contractual Stability and Dispute Mediation and Arbitration Systems

Contractual instability is one of the most serious threats facing clubs nowadays. Several incidents related with the illegal breach of contracts have been constantly denounced either by clubs or players and widely reported by the media, affecting the steady relations between clubs and players and the stability of the leagues’ competitions.

Against this background, the EPFL has decided to take a proactive stance and involve all those responsible and concerned football entities (Leagues, federations, UEFA, FIFA, clubs and other relevant stakholders) in an inedited Conference.

A number of vital issues shall be the spot light during this high-level Conference on �Contractual Stability and Dispute Mediation and Arbitration Systems�, as per terms of the attached Programme. The event shall be held on the 29th of October 2009, at the magnificent Sala Cinquecento of the beautiful Palazzo Vecchio, in Florence, Italy.

The EPFL Conference will address all major cases and tendencies which have recently impacted upon the principle of contractual stability, both at national and international level, and is expected to provide relevant recommendations and guidelines to ensure the aimed protection and reinforcement of such fundamental principle.

Chaired by the former UK Minister for Sport, Richard Caborn, the EPFL forum will gather some of the most distinct experts in Sports Law and influent powerbrokers in Professional Football, including the EPFL Chairman Sir David Richards, EPFL CEO Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, UEFA General Secretary Gianni Infantino, ECA General Secretary Michele Centenaro, FIFPro General Secretary Theo Van Seggelen, CAS General Secretary Matthieu Reeb, FIFA Players’ Status Department Legal Counsel Daniel Pose, EPFL Representatives at the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber Mario Gallavotti and Philippe Diallo, English Premier League Legal Counsel Maurice Watkins, Spanish League Legal Counsel Juan de Dios Crespo P�rez and José Maria Correa de Sampaio, specialist in international arbitration and senior partner of Abreu Advogados. They shall be joined by the Presidents of the Italian FA Giancarlo Abete, Lega Calcio Maurizio Beretta, Lega Pro Mario Maccali and the Lord Mayor of Florence Matteo Renzi, among many other distinguished guests and participants of the �football family� and beyond.
