The EPFL warmly welcomes today’s judgement in the Stichting Brein case. The Court of Justice of the European Union confirmed that the sale of a multimedia player which enables the viewing of illegal internet streams of films and sport content constitute an infringement of copyright. This ruling extends a previous judgement which confirmed that linking to pirate sites constitute a breach of copyright.
This will give rights holders, including football leagues, and their broadcast partners greater legal clarity to keep enforcing their rights within the EU.
The highest Court in Europe confirmed that devices such Filmspeler which are advertised as allowing users to access TV shows, movies and sports events without a subscription are clearly illegal and that consumers should not purchase those devices.Back to All News
